These covers are handmade from start to finish. The clay is conditioned, cut, shaped, sculpted, textured, painted, cured, sealed, and glued to the book.
This is a very unique cover. It may look delicate, but it is durable for everyday use. Choose your color for the shield and background. You also get to decide what you want to go on the shield. Your initial, maybe. They options are endless.
I will custom sculpt a similar cover to suit your personal specifications. Each cover is a one of a kind, sculpted art creation by me. Although they may be similar, no two are exactly alike. It takes up to 2 weeks to create one cover, to include drying and curing. The journal pictured an examples and not available for sale.

Medieval Shield Cover
Polymer clay is a type of modeling clay based on the polymer polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It typically contains no clay minerals, but like mineral clay a liquid is added to dry particles until it achieves gel-like working properties, and similarly, the piece is put into an oven to harden, hence its colloquial designation as clay.
After curing, polymer clay hardens into a very durable and waterproof plastic/resin material and is notably light weight.
This doesn't mean it is unbreakable though, so you should still be mindful while using it and avoid constant exposure to water and direct sunlight as that could damage the embellishments and/or the paint job. I coat each piece in a glossy glaze as well, just to give it some extra protection.
